Wet Monday

Wet Monday it's the most awaited moment of Easter by the youngest.

They skulk with their plastic eggs filled with water (or other toys intended for it) for the first victims from the morning ;) Teenagers prefer buckets over small plastic toys and use it against people who walk around the streets, what is not funny already. 

Back in the day traditionally Wet Monday symbolized act of spring cleansing of dirt and disease. It was connected to a symbolic nature awakening to life. It  has been popular among young girls and boys. That day  the most of  girls were in danger of being sprinkled with water  by the lurking boys. Girls run away from the boys chasing them with buckets full of water; however be sprinkled meant success with the opposite sex ;)

In Poland the Eve of Easter Sunday is the time of joyful anticipation. That day believers go to church to attend the ritual of the blessing of the foods prepared for Easter breakfast. We carry it in special wicker baskets. Among the necessary goodies in the Easter basket are Easter eggs (a symbol of new life), lamb made of sugar or dough, which symbolises the martyred Christ. We add also a slice  of specially prepared ham and sausage, a pinch of salt and a slice of bread. Children usually add chocolate bunny.

Kurki zrobiłam z moich ulubionych nici Ariadny  - Karat.

Niedziela Palmowa

Palm Sunday falls on the week preceding Easter  and commemorates Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem. On that day believers go to church carrying palms and bouquets of catkins, which are not only a reminder of the events described in the Gospel, but also  an expression of the old folktales about the spring rebirth and renewal. In many places in Poland people make traditional colorful palms from willow branches,  flowers, tissue paper for competition for the most beautiful and the highest palm. Palm trees often reach a height of several meters. A curiosity is they are done very carefully without any metal parts.

I made crochet doily in sunny color  for that day ;)

Easter is comming…

In Poland painting eggs is an Easter tradition which enjoys great popularity. Painted eggs are a symbol of nature being reborn to the life, 

and in Christianity  refer to the belief in the resurrection of Christ.

I like preparing colorful Easter eggs too, but those on the pictures are made by an unknown  to me artist. 

They will be a beautiful Easter table decorations with my crochet doilies.
